Deleting Browser History
For users that do a lot of internet surfing one of the largest hogs of disk space are the "Temporary internet files" and most users never think to remove these files which could be obsolete or no longer necessary.
Another good reason to remove these files is if the computer is shared by multiple users as these files could be accessible to anyone using the computer.
In some rare cases, an intruder could hack into the computer and possibly retrieve valuable information from these temporary files.
There are several ways to remove these files but here are the two most common. |
Method 1
| To manually remove the "Temporary internet files" navigate to "Tools -> Internet Options" |

| From the "General" in the "Browsing history" section select the "Delete..." button |

| This will drive up another dialog where the type of delete can be selected. For this eaxmple the "Delete all..." is used |

| To be completely secure, when the next dialog appears select "Also delete..." checkbox and then select the "Yes" button |

| Then select the "OK" button from the "Internet Options" dialog |
Method 2
| The second method will delete the "Temporary internet files" each time the browser is closed but this method doesn't delete everything, only cached webpages. Navigate to "Tools -> Internet Options" |

| From the "Advanced" tab scroll down under "Settings" to the "Security" section, select the "Empty Temprorary Internet Files..." checkbox, and then select the "OK" button. Now each time the browser is closed the temporary files will be automatically deleted. |

Adding Trusted Sites
Many websites attempt to download information to the users computer to help with the browsing experience.
On the downside, unscrupulous websites use these functions to wreak havoc with the users computer by placing viruses, bugs or, worse case scenario, steal information from the users computer.
By default, when a page wants to download files the browser will prompt the user on how they wish to proceed. This can become tiresome to the user when they visit a site that they trust and continually have to answer these prompts.
The following details how to add a site as trusted so the user will no longer be prompted when visiting that particular site. |

| While the site in question is in listed in the browser |

| Navigate to "Tools -> Internet Options" |

| From the "Security" tab select "Trusted Sites" and then select the "Sites" button |

| Select the "Add" button |

| Select the "Close" button |

| Then select the "OK" button. From this point forward, when you visit this site, you will not be repeatedly asked whether or not you trust its downloading. |
